Best Shave Creams Reviewed

The best shaving cream

There are so many different forms of shaving products whether they come in foam, gel or cream form. This makes it hard to distinguish the good from the bad. The best shave creams out-perform both foam and gel based shaving products as they are higher quality and do not contain ‘propellants’ which dry out the skin.

Today it becomes a bit easier to find the right product as we are going to show you the best 7 shave creams on the market right now.

Shaving creams require a little more time and effort because they are not self lathering. If you are willing to put in the time plus care about your skin and facial hair enough then shave cream is definitely the only way to go.

These shaving creams will transform your morning routine:

Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl

 Our Rating: 5/5

Taylor of Old Bond Street is one the best shaving creams around. The cream is silky smooth and only a tiny amount is needed to provide a full lathering. This means that one tub will last you a good few of months. Taylor products are made with no parabens making them perfect for men with sensitive skin. The cream provides a moisturising effect to prevent the kind of drying that is often caused by foams or gels. The sandalwood scent is pleasant and masculine while not overpowering. Overall this shave cream is excellent quality providing everything you’d expect from a respected like Taylor of Old Bond Street. Most importantly the cream performs well in both hard and soft water areas so there is no worry about the kind of water you’re using to shave. This is one our favourites and with the excellent price point it’s hard to say no.

The Bluebeards Revenge Luxury Shaving Cream

 Our Rating: 4.5/5

Bluebeards Revenge markets itself as a real man’s man company. It’s shaving cream follows this ethos, it is formulated to soften tough stubble and give a complete shave that lasts longer than foams and gels. We found this one to lather really well. It recommends an almond sized amount for every use but this is actually overly generous. As such just one pot lasted a long time. As with most quality shave creams this is completely paraben free and therefore appropriate for sensitive skin. It has a masculine scent that leaves a nostalgic atmosphere of an old fashioned barber shop in the air. Overall Bluebeards Revenge shaving cream works exactly as desired lathering up well and allowing the razor to effortlessly glide across skin.

Pacific Shaving Company All Natural Shaving Cream

Our Rating: 4.5/5

Pacific shaving company markets its shaving cream to appeal to all men. This not just for those who take a vested interest in their shave and treat it like the event it deserves to be. However despite this it is still a fantastic product that produces the smoothest shave of any of the mass marketed shave creams currently available. We’ve found that Pacific Shaving, especially with this all natural product have gone above and beyond to make a shave cream that is kind to your skin. Without any irritation it manages to produce a nice amount of lather that softens the hair allowing the blade to glide across. This product is perfect for those days you just don’t have the time to brush up a lather from a tub. The product squeezes out and lathers up great giving you one hell of a shave. We will say that while it is fantastic if you’re busy or on the go, nothing beats a proper traditional shave cream.

St James of London Cedarwood & Clarysage Shave Cream

 Our Rating: 5/5

St James is another fantastic London based shave company. Their Cedarwood and Clarysage shave cream is definitely up there with the best. It provides all the comfort and ease of use of a great shave cream with a subtle yet extremely pleasant scent that we can only describe as sandalwood with a twist. This product lubricates and moisturises extremely well keeping your beard soft and your face in great shape. We found that a little definitely goes a long way with this cream, it might be pricey but the value received makes it well worth the cost. Just like the others in this list St James’ provides a smooth clean shave that brings out the simple pleasure of the task. Really though the scent of this cream is a treat and almost worth it just for that.

 Our Rating: 5/5

Trumper is a trusted brand in men’s shaving and anyone who has used one of their creams knows why. This particular shave cream has a delightful lime scent that’s not too strong but just enough to leave you looking forward to it every morning. As for the shaving experience itself, nothing short of great. The lather is smooth and soft keeping your skin in fantastic shape as the blade wicks away hair with ease. As with most creams on this list you’ll find a noticeable decline in little nicks and scratches once you switch to a quality shave cream like this. TrueFitt & Hill 200ml Authentic Finest Shaving Cream

 Our Rating: 5/5

TrueFitt and Hill is another brilliant traditional british shaving company that has been plying its trade for over 200 years. That’s all well and good you think, but how does its shaving cream hold up when put to use? Well obvious by its inclusion in this list the answer is brilliantly. This product moisturises really effectively and it definitely feels like your skin is benefitting from its use. If you’re sensitive to razor burn this is a good option. It lathers up really nicely and like all the best shave creams you really don’t need to use much to get full coverage and an excellent shave. The shave itself is smooth as silk, almost effortless to use the blade, though that isn’t exceptional in a list of the best shave creams it’s certainly part of the reason we like it so much. It is also another product that doesn’t let the type of water you have hinder its effectiveness so there is no worry of buying it only to be disappointed. Overall TrueFitt and Hill’s shave cream is a great physical example of why they’ve been in business so long. They do quality and no compromise and we really like that.

Castle Forbes Lime Oil Shaving Cream

 Our Rating: 5/5

Castle Forbes have produced a real top shelf shaving cream here. It does come with a rather high price tag but it does justify this in its quality. This shaving cream epitomises a little goes a long way so there’s no worry of value for money here. We’re pretty sure you could lather an elephant twice over with just one jar. The lime scent is really nice, not as subtle as other similar shave creams, we don’t mind this however as the smell doesn’t linger or overpower aftershaves. The shave itself is smooth as can be and kind to the skin. Just like all the creams in this list there are no parabens it’s all naturally scented so if you have sensitive skin it is perfect. Castle Forbes can tackle any beard and it’s never a struggle you will also find cuts and nicks reduced or eliminated, razor burn is pretty much a thing of the past. We really love this shave cream and you will too. However it is pretty pricey which is the one downside.

What we learned

As you can see it was a real struggle to find any fault with any of these excellent shaving creams. Most scored a perfect 5 for us because there really wasn’t anything they could add to improve the experience. All of them have subtle differences in amount of lubrication, moisturisation, scent etc. However every single one of these amazing shave creams pull all of the factors together into a brilliant individual product. We can’t tell you which one will be best for you as we don’t know what you specifically need from a shaving cream.

What we can assure you is that this list is the cream of the crop. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t other great shaving products out there but overall if we had to go with one it would be from this list. Not that it would be an easy choice!

Now:

Shaving creams require a little effort to use as you will have to lather them yourself using a shaving brush. They are a lot less harsh than gel or foam as they don’t contain synthetic perfumes which can really irritate sensitive facial skin. Shave creams also produce warm lather due to the way the brush is used to generate it. This warm lather has the added benefit of lifting facial hair off your face making it easier to shave.

One really important criteria we are using for this review aside from price and performance is the creams usability under different water conditions.

Whether you have hard or soft water impacts the ease with which some creams lather. In the list above tried to find the best shave creams that can lather well in all water conditions. No point in spending more money on a premium product only to find it doesn’t work due to geography.
