Finding the best aftershave on the market right now can be hard. To distinguish what is going to work for you and what isn’t requires sifting through so much information. One thing to bear in mind is that aftershave and colognes/eau de toilettes are very different. Aftershave is designed for just that, a soothing lightly scented balm put on after shaving to protect the skin and prevent redness. Colognes and other strongly scented products last longer but are too harsh to use just after shaving and should be used in lower quantities on your pulse points (neck and wrists).
Luckily for you we’ve compiled this handy table you can quickly reference and find the best aftershave for your needs. All of the products are also described in greater detail further down the page.

Our picks for best aftershave
Overall Rating: 4.7/5
This aftershave tops our list this year as it excels in every category that the best aftershave lotion or balm should. With a very slight hint of lavender it has subtle and pleasing odour that doesn’t overpower the noses of everyone within a five metre radius as some men’s scents tend to do.
As well as this Gilbert Henry has a perfect mix of natural ingredients with no harsh chemicals making it perfect for those with more sensitive skin. It helps to alleviate razor burn and prevent redness by replenishing essential oils and moisturising the affected areas.
In fact the only issue we could take with this aftershave and the factor preventing us from giving it a perfect 5 was its price. At $29.99 it may seem a bit expensive but this is on product its worth splashing out on especially for those looking to prevent razor burn.>> See prices and reviews on Amazon<<
Similar to the Gilbert Henry aftershave Baxter of California is lightly scented. It has a slight citrus aroma once applied once again not too overpowering.
Baxter also excels at keeping skin in excellent condition post shave with its alcohol free formula full of natural ingredients helping to greatly reduce redness and leaving you with a soothing cool feeling.>>See prices and reviews on Amazon<<

One of the most popular aftershaves Nivea Men is mild scented and formulated to help prevent skin irritation from shaving.
This post shave balm is the best aftershave for its price which contributes to it place on this list. Still excellent for sensitive skin but not as good at preventing irritation and redness as the two above. However do not let this put you off this is still an excellent after shave especially if you are looking to get value for your money.>>See prices and reviews on Amazon<<
Overall Rating: 4.3/5
Proraso is a light fruit scented after shave balm that is made using natural ingredients that help to moisturise the skin post shave. Those with sensitive skin will find this useful at reducing redness but it is best used in conjunction with another moisturiser as it is not quite as good at reducing razor burn as some others on this list.
This is a great quality aftershave and the scent is slightly stronger and longer lasting than most without being overpowering.>>See prices and reviews on Amazon<<

This aftershave from Rugged and Dapper works as an excellent moisturiser and includes an anti ageing formula helping to keep your skin soothed and hydrated post shave.
The aftershave is fragrance free and made with completely natural ingredients. It’s anti-ageing properties make it the perfect after shave for the older gent.>>See prices and reviews on Amazon<<

Dove Men+ Care aftershave is an excellent option for those with sensitive skin due to its vitamin B5 rich formula that helps to hydrate skin, tighten pores and reduce oiliness. For those that find their skin flares every easily after shaving this is an excellent option only really being outdone by Gilbert Henry in terms of skincare.
Its’ main issue is the method of application determined by its packaging design. Men+ Care comes in a squeeze bottle making it quite easy to use too much and end up wasting quite a bit. This is however not a huge problem as it is quite a low cost option.>>See prices and reviews on Amazon<<
Taylor of Old Bond Street is a more traditional masculine aftershave with a long lasting and pleasant sandalwood scent.
Its scent is derived from essential oils and not perfume so while it is not specifically geared towards those prone to redness and won’t help to reduce razor burn its very kind to the skin and will not exacerbate any problems as cologne would. As such this is the perfect aftershave for those looking for a nicely scented product that lasts all day.>>See prices and reviews on Amazon<<
Paul Sebastien After Shave Lotion has a nicely spiced, fruity scent with a woody musk. Younger men may consider it an ‘older’ smell but it is a very pleasant one. The fragrance is long lasting while not being too overpowering.
Like Taylor’s above Paul Sebastien aftershave has very few moisturising or hydrating elements and acts more like a cologne while still being kind to the skin post shave. This makes Paul Sebastien the best aftershave for those looking to add a stronger scent to their post shave routine.>>See prices and reviews on Amazon<<
